Stampbook Saturday with Tobi

Hi there! It's Tobi Crawford here with our Stampbook Saturday feature!
So anytime I have to do a layout I try and get a few more of my wedding photos scrapped. So you're stuck with looking at pictures of my cake - but it was an amazing cake so it's ok!!

I made the patterned paper with PanPastels because it was one of those papers with clear embossing on it (that was made for mists, but I used pastels...) so I made it rainbow like my cake! So I rubbed the colours onto the paper and added some stamping and journaling!

I used the stamp set FABULOUS in Archival ink in black because there were some other black elements on the layout and it made the whole page homogeneous.

Yes, it was as good as it looked. We didn't have a fancy venue, I didn't pay a lot for my dress, but there were a few details that my husband and I were willing to pay for and getting the cake of our (my) dreams was one of them!! (I first saw this cake on the cover of a Martha Stewart magazine and I knew it had to be mine!!)

Thank you for joining me this week! I've had a blast.

ABC Friday with Tobi

Hi there! It's Tobi Crawford here again and wow! I am so glad you liked my post the other day about Gesso! I am sharing another project today using the same technique, but I promise to share more Gesso ideas in the future!!

A few years ago I started making design team calendars to keep all of my assignments straight. I'm the kind of person that likes to have assignments on paper instead of digitally so this method is right up my alley. I just like to see everything at a glance instead of a day-at-a-time. I dunno... I'm weird like that I guess.

So... Can you spot all of the Gesso??

I hand-cut the circles and added Gesso with my fingers. I painted the background with Gesso too, but then I added all those little spots (from the Phyllis stamp set) in brown Archival ink on top. It makes a really cool background!

Then I coloured up a brand-spanking new girl (Amalia's Daisy) with Copic markers and added some other stuff to finish the page.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Her first card uses the super fun Shiver Me Timbers set...isn't it adorable??! I love the chevrons, they make me think of water!

Here is another card using Shiver Me Timbers, too fun! I love that map paper, how perfect!

And finally, she used Blossom By Blossom to create this adorable CAS card. I love the corner punch, it's so fun!!

Well, that is it for me for now! Be sure to run by and say hi to Karen, and tell her we sent you!

Wednesday Trends: Gesso

Hi there! It's Tobi Crawford here and I'm going to talk to you guys about Gesso and how to incorporate it into your card-making.

A lot of people who are into mixed media use Gesso on almost everything they do - why? Because it's versatile. It's most basic function is a primer, so if you wanted to use paints on a porous surface and not have them sink into it - use Gesso.

I like to use Gesso to transform things, and today I'm going to show you how to transform existing patterned paper into a custom pattern using Gesso.

This is the original pattern. Not too bold, but if I wanted to stamp on top of it most likely the stamp would clash with the chevrons. So let's cover it with Gesso.

This is with one coat of Gesso with a wet brush. I want a little more variance in the opacity (that's a mouthful...) so I will use my finger to apply some more Gesso.

I didn't add Gesso everywhere, but I made sure to have some areas almost completely white.

Now I'm ready to stamp!!

Any image can be a background pattern if you stamp it over-and-over, right? I thought this mustache would be a cool background, and I was right!! (The stamp is from Flava Sava)

I cut out a mustache (it's so hard for me to not type moustache the Canadian way...) with my Silhouette and incorporated it into the punny sentiment.

What do you think?? Easy enough, right?? Give Gesso a try and let us know how you did!
