I was out shopping with fellow Trendsetter, Angela and she ended up helping me with the idea to make this cute box. I came home with this wooden apple shaped box, brown acrylic paint and a foam brush and for a total of $3 came up with this goody/pencil box.
You will need the following supplies to create a similar item:
- Apple Box
- Foam Brushes (2)
- Brown Acrylic Paint
- Tacky Liquid Glue
- Designer Papers (I used October Afternoon Report Card and Farm Fresh)
- Sponge Daubers
- Emery Board
- Scissors
- Light and Dark Brown Inks (I used Ranger Distress Antique Linen and SU Chocolate Chip)
- There She Goes Stamp Set for decorating (I used Torico's Believe in You set)
Step 1: Paint your entire box with the brown acrylic paint and you will most likely need 2 coats of paint. Let it dry well between the layers.
Step 2: Give the box a light sanding. This will help to smooth some of the wood grain and any rough edges.
Step 3: Trace around the box onto designer paper and cut out 2 of the apple shapes and rectangle shapes for the sides of the box. I also cut out a stem and leaves that I free handed to layer onto the red polka dot paper.
Step 4: Use a foam brush and spread some of the tacky glue onto the box making sure to spread the glue right to the edges and apply the designer paper apples to both the front that the backside of the box.
Step 5: Once the glue has dried, take an old emery board and file off any over hang from the paper. this creates a perfectly formed edge.
Step 6: Take your light brown ink and sponge the edges of the designer papers and then take the darker ink and add a light sponging as well.
Step 7: Glue all of your sponged additions like the leaves and stems to the box.
Step 8: Add a stamped panel to personalized the box and any additional embellishments. For this box I added ribbon, button and sponged panel with the school house from Torico's Believe in You set.
This gift could be filled with candy or pencils, rubber bands, paper clips etc. I think that it would look really sweet put together with clear cellophane and a big red or green bow with matching card to finish it off.
Thanks for coming by today and have a wonderful Friday!
