Hello everyone! Danielle here. One of my favorite technique-y cards to make is one with a shaker box on it. I love 'em... especially the shaking part. I thought I would share a step by step look at how I make a shaker card!
Step 1: Make a frame for the shaker box. For my sample I used two Nestabilites dies and a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock. I layered the dies on my cardstock and taped in place (making sure to place the tape on an area of the cardstock I would be discarding). I then ran it through my die cutting machine and had a perfect frame. You can also use a paper trim, cut a rectangle and then cut another smaller rectangle within the first one.
Step 2: Cut a piece of acetate and a piece of white cardstock slightly smaller than the frame. Since my front piece was just a bit over 3" x 3" I cut my pieces that size and rounded the corners, otherwise they would have shown a bit. (*Note - after cutting my front piece I ran it through my die cutting machine a second time using an embossing folder).
Step 3: Stamp an image on your white cardstock base and color.
Step 4: Create a *wall*. I use foam dimensional tape adhered to the base layer to create my wall. Tip - use the "window" portion of the front frame as a guide for dimensional tape placement. Note - since my foam dimensional tape was a bit too wide I cut it in half. I also added a second layer (not shown in this picture) to make the box a bit deeper.
Step 5: Add some shaker filling. I used carrot seeds. Yup - I had some leftover seeds from the container garden I planted and thought they would be perfect for this project. :)
Step 6: Remove backing from the foam and add the acetate. Trim off excess acetate from the edges.
Step 7: Add the front frame. Woot! The shaker box is done. :)
However...
Last step: Decorate the shaker box and add to your decorated card base. :) For mine I tied a bit of jute around the box and then added a little birdie. I mounted the shaker box on the decorated card base with a few dimensionals.
But wait there is one last step.... shake, shake SHAKE!!! *hee hee* :)
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope I inspired you a little bit!
