Dollar Find Friday

Everyone is welcome and we love to meet new people :)

Hello again, it's Lynn here for today's Dollar Find Friday!  As a crafter stepping into a dollar store with creating a project in mind is exciting, it's like searching for that perfect object to be transformed and knowing that you'll be creating something from the heart that doesn't cost a fortune.  Well as I was at the dollar store searching I came across some unfinished wooden letters and an idea that I had come across on Pinterest popped into my head.  The idea was to create a personalized Christmas ornament using the first letter of the families last name.  So before I made one as a gift for someone I thought I'd make one for our family just to see how it went.  I was surprised at how fun and easy it was to dress up a wooden letter using a few tools, some designer paper and of course the adorable stamp sets No peeking!, Holly Jolly and Holly Jolly Die.
Below are the steps I used to create my personalized Christmas ornament -

Supplies: Wooden letter, designer paper, scissors, craft paint, foam paint brush, craft glue, metal file, sponge, No Peeking!, Holly Jolly stamp set and die, ribbon.
Here's a shot of the wooden letter before I started.
In order to create a pattern to cut out the designer paper that will go onto the front of the letter I placed a sheet of designer paper on top of the wooden letter, held it in place, applied light pressure and rubbed along all of the edges.  Once I flipped the designer paper over I could see my letter "P".
I used a pair of scissors to cut out my designer paper letter "P" leaving about 1/8" around on all edges.
Next I used some cream colored craft paint and painted around the edges of the letter.  Once the paint was dry I brushed on some craft glue along the top of the letter and added my designer paper.  I let the designer paper and glue set up for about 10 minutes and then took a metal file and filed along the edges of the designer paper to trim off the excess.
I used a sponge to sponge on some green ink along the edges of the designer paper, die cut a piece of green cardstock using the Holly Jolly Die and stamped it with the snowflake image from the Holly Jolly stamp set.  I printed out our family name on vanilla cardstock from the computer then stamped the holly image, circle frame and the 2011 from the No Peeking! stamp set and used a circle punch to punch it out.
I layered the die and stamped pieces together after I colored the holly image, added some bows and a ribbon hanger on the back and I was done.

I hope you've enjoyed my Dollar Find Friday post!
