Wednesday Trends - Pleating Ribbon

Hi everyone, Heather here for this week's Wednesday Trends... :) I get a lot of questions on how I pleat and ruffle the ribbon on my cards, so I thought I would take some time today to show you how you can create pleats.  Pleating is a very easy technique to do, and it really looks lovely on your completed cards.  The only supplies you really need are ribbon and Scor-Tape (I usually use the 1/4" width for pleating).  I know some people use their Tombow tape runner or red line tape, but I find that the Tombow adhesive isn't strong enough to create a permanent bond (the pleats will pop back up), and red line tape is a little too unforgiving if you make a mistake while pleating/ruffling.

To start out, apply a piece of Scor-Tape across the base of the card (or whatever cardstock you'll be adding the ribbon to), and remove the paper backing.  Adhere about 1/4-1/2" piece of ribbon to the card base, and fold the next section of ribbon to create what will become the pleat.

Hold the pleat in place, and press down another 1/4-1/2" section of ribbon to secure it to the card base.  You should end up with a pleat that looks like this:

Repeat the process along the length of the Scor-Tape strip, and you should end up with this:

Next, add little strips of Scor-Tape to the sections of ribbon adhered to the card base:

Remove the paper backing, and gently press the ribbon loops into the adhesive to secure:

See... that's it! Super easy! :) Here is my completed card:

Have a great day!! :)

  5. That's a great tip. I had done pleating on a project but did not use the right adhesive and it came off! Bummed for sure...this would have helped me pick the adhesive. Learning by trial and error...LOL!
